President Mamadou Tandja of Niger received here today members of the Saudi urgent relief committee which was formed by a directive by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz under the chairmanship of Acting chief of the Saudi Red Crescent Association to inspect the situation of the Nigerien people. At the beginning of the meeting, the head of the Saudi committee conveyed to the president greetings of the king and said the committee came to hear from officials of the government of Niger and to have a close look at the situation and to discuss ways to overcome the food crisis suffered by the Nigerien people. The president expressed thanks to the king for his humanitarian initiative explaining that 223,000 tons of food supplies are needed to overcome the crisis.
