A baby girl born last month to a cancer- stricken, brain-dead U.S. woman has died, news reports said Tuesday. Susan Anne Catherine Torres, who was six weeks old, died of heart failure after intestinal surgery, the clinic said., She was born in the seventh month of pregnancy, weighing only 820 grams, to her 26-year-old mother, who had been on life support since early May to allow the baby to develop. The birth by Caeserian went well, but the baby had to cope with the typical complications of prematurity, doctors said. The mother died after the birth, when the life support machines were turned off at the Virginia Hospital Centre in Arlington, across the Potomac River from the nation's capital. A family website said it cost the family 1,500 dollars per day beyond what her insurance covered to pay for Torres' medical care. More than 400,000 dollars had been donated from all over the world by early August. --SP 2315 Local Time 2015 GMT
