Possible links between the bombers who attacked London's transit system and foreign-based terrorists remain an important matter for investigation, Britain's top law enforcement official said Tuesday. Home Secretary Charles Clarke told a Parliamentary committee that investigators were placing "slightly" more importance on the issue of foreign involvement in their probe of the July 7 bombings, in which four suicide bombers killed 52 subway and bus passengers. "I certainly think the foreign link is a very important element to look at. I think there is no doubt that there were a whole series of international relationships that were engaged in," Clarke told the Home Affairs Select Committee of the House of Commons.
