A fire in an industrial zone in Sharjah, one of the sheikhdoms in the United Arab Emirates, injured 81 workers Sunday, the official news agency WAM reported. Three workers suffered serious injuries before civil defence teams and police from Sharjah, Dubai and Ajman could put out the blaze which started in warehouses containing chemical products. Most of the workers were injured when the flames spread to their living quarters. The UAE armed forces also helped extinguish the blaze, which broke out at dawn, WAM reported. It was not clear what caused the fire but police said stricter security and safety measures should have been in place.
