Toledano Manor, built in 1856 and lovingly restored after the killer 1969 Hurricane Camille, is a splintered jumble. The list goes on, reported Reuters. Given the total destruction, few people living here believe the authorities will try to restore the beachfront. Most of the properties were in private hands anyway, and their owners may not have the money needed to rebuild. "There's going to be a lot of very cheap beachfront real estate on offer here," said Bruce Brookshire, an investment advisor whose stone house is one of the last buildings left standing near the now-tranquil sea. "Who's going to rebuild? You can't get flood insurance and anything you put up could easily be washed away in the next storm," he said as he walked along the deserted beach road, his T-shirt smeared with sweat and grime. --SP 2344 Local Time 2044 GMT
