Acer notebooks, made by Taiwan's Acer Corp, showed strong second-quarter growth in the Asia-Pacific, with Acer doubling its notebook growth in the region and Acer notebooks ranking first place in several countries, Acer said on Friday in a statement carried by Reuters. Second-quarter preliminary data showed that Acer notebooks' shipment rose 104 per cent year-on-year and shoed the highest growth rate among the top five PC vendors. Acer ranked No. 5 in terms of total PCs and desktop PCs in the region. In Australia, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand, Acer notebooks' shipment ranked No. 1 in Q2. Shipment grew 169 per cent in Australia, 135 per cent in Malaysia, 178 per cent in Indonesia and 91 per cent in Thailand, Acer said, quoting preliminary figures from the International Data Corp. (IDC). For total PCs, Acer ranked No. 2 in Indonesia and Thailand, No. 3 in Australia and Malaysia. In Taiwan, Acer ranked No. 1 and again displayed the highest year-on-year growth among the top five vendors. Acer ranks among the world's top five branded PC vendors. In 2000, Acer spun off its manufacturing operation to focus on globally marketing its brand-name products: desktop and mobile PCs, servers and storage, displays, peripherals, and e-business solutions for business, government, education, and home users.
