The pilot of a light aircraft was killed Sunday after his plane crashed off the French Mediterranean coast. The twin-engined aircraft, which had been engaged in aerial observation of forest fires, crashed into the sea close to the town of Serignan, police said, according to DPA. The pilot had been alone aboard the plane. A fire which had broken out shortly before in an unofficial campsite destroyed 15 camper vans and caravans but did not result in casualties.
