Pakistani newspapers of different languages carried the news of the death of King Fahd bin Abdul Aziz as a lead news item of the day. The front pages of all newspapers were splashed with a variety of news items relating to the death. Opinion pages were also filled with articles about King Fahd. Most of the newspapers also editorially commented, lauding the services of King Fahd and the loss of a statesman to the Muslim nation. "End of an era" was how the leading English language daily The News headlined its main editorial. "The death of King Fahd bin Abdul Aziz has deprived the Muslim Ummah (nation) of a sagacious leader, whose absence will be deeply felt in the Islamic world's efforts to deal with the sticky issues facing it," the editorial said. ". . . The task ahead is difficult, but the new King has the astuteness and prudence to provide the kind of leadership that the Muslim Ummah needs in the fast changing world," it added. --MORE 1454 Local Time 1154 GMT
