Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas described his one day visit to Syria, which concluded Saturday, as "very important", saying Palestinian factions in Damascus had reaffirmed their support for the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO). "The trip has been very important for bringing the Syrian brethren an update regarding what is taking place in the Palestinian territories," Abbas told reporters during a stopover in Amman while on his way back to Ramallah, according to DPA. He said Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad and all the representatives of Palestinian factions whom he met in Damascus "reaffirmed their support for the unity of the (PLO)."This is a good and important gesture," he added.
