The Minister of Water and Electricity, Eng. Abdullah Al-Hussaien, signed here today a six-month-contract worth SR13 million with a Swiss company "ABG" to conduct a survey on leaking and running water. Eng. Al-Hussaien told reporters that this project is part of a comprehensive review undertaken by his Ministry to privatize the water sector in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. "The leakages cause a large volume of running water in all regions of the Kingdom which reach one million cubic meters of water per day," according to some statistics. "This survey will lead to decreasing the rate to five percent." He also pointed out that the Ministry has plans to benefit from rain-water by constructing dams, adding that the volume of water saved by dams during the last 50 years amounted to 800 million cubic meters.
