Two government employees were killed in a Baghdad drive-by shooting Wednesday while an Iraqi translator working for the U.S. military was slain north of the capital, security officials said. Two carloads of gunmen fired on a vehicle carrying Industry Ministry officials Zaki Jawad and Mohammed Haider, killing both, police Lt. Mohammed Jassim said. Gunmen also killed Mustafa Ashraf, a translator working for U.S. troops, as he was driving between the towns of Khalis and Baqouba, 60 kilometers (35 miles) northeast of Baghdad, Iraqi army Col. Abdullah al-Shamari said. Also in Baqouba, a car bomb exploded at 10:15 a.m. (0615GMT) near a petrol station where cars were waiting for fuel, killing two civilians and destroying five vehicles, police Col. Muthafar Mohammed said. More than 870 people, including U.S. military personnel, have been killed since Iraq's new government was announced April 28, according to a report of the Associated Press.
