Kyrgyz and Uzbek foreign ministers met Saturday to discuss the fate of Uzbek residents who had sought asylum in Kyrgyzstan after a recent violence in the eastern Uzbek city of Andijan. About 500 Uzbek citizens have stayed in a tent camp on the Kyrgyz side of the border, unwilling to return home because of fear of repression, while Uzbekistan has pushed for their expulsion. Details of the meeting between Kyrgyzstan's Acting Foreign Minister Roza Otunbayeva and her Uzbek counterpart Elyor Ganiev were not immediately available, according to a report of the Associated Press. The Kyrgyz foreign ministry's spokeswoman, Lira Sabyrova, said Friday that they would discuss bilateral relations and the issue of Uzbek asylum seekers.
