The army's latest foray against the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) led to the discovery of a camp where about 60 rebels suffering from AIDS were being kept to prevent the spread of the disease, a military officer said Monday. General Carlos Fracica, commander of the Omega Task Force in charge of all operations under the U.S.-backed counterinsurgency Patriot Plan, said the ill leftist guerrillas were moved out of the camp, located in southern Colombia, before military troops entered, dpa reported. Fracica, who cited a rebel who had abandoned the guerrilla group, said a number of FARC fighters have been infected with HIV in Colombia's southern coca-growing region, dpa reported. "We have informed authorities in towns that all measures be taken to counteract the illness," he said, adding that residents have been told to approach medical personnel to receive information about preventing HIV infections. --More 2233 Local Time 1933 GMT
