Colombia's leftist FARC guerrillas said Friday the group will soon hand over the bodies of 11 former hostages who were killed in a rebel camp last week, according to dpa. Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) spokesman, known by the alias Raul Reyes, said the bodies of the former regional legislators will be returned when there is no fighting or presence by the authorities in south-western Colombia. FARC said Thursday that the 11 hostages, who had been held captive for five years, were killed in crossfire during an attack on the camp by an unidentified group on June 18. However, Caracol Radio, quoting military sources, said the rebels probably murdered the hostages after an attack on their camp by dissident paramilitaries. Colombian President Alvaro Uribe said the hostages were not killed in a rescue operation by the Colombian military because the "government had no knowledge of the place where they were held captive."
