The navies of Singapore and Indonesia have launched a sea surveillance system that will allow them to share a common real-time sea situation picture of the Singapore Strait, reported Channel News Asia Friday. Called Project SURPIC, it will enable the two navies to better monitor the busy waterway, so they can exchange information and deploy patrol vessels in the area more effectively as well as enhance their inter-operability to combat piracy and sea robberies. --SP 2311 Local Time 2011 GMT
