Six people have been killed by lightning strikes during storms in southern Vietnam in the past four days, an official said Tuesday. Five farmers aged between 16 and 30 were killed while working in paddy fields and a 10-year-old-boy was also killed by lightning while riding his bike home from school. The incidents occurred across six different communes between last Tuesday and Friday, said Lai Thanh An, the director of committee for flood prevention and control of Bac Lieu province. A seventh victim, a young boy, was struck by lightning but not killed, An said. "In this season, thunderstorms with lightning often come in the late afternoon and last more or less an hour," An said from the province in the Mekong delta, according to DPA. During a storm on Friday, a waterspout appeared in a coastal district of the province. It injured a boy and swept away 13 houses causing a damage of 850 U.S. dollars, the director said.
