An explosion killed a police officer and wounded four other people in the southern Russian region of Dagestan on Tuesday, Russia's Itar-Tass news agency reported. The explosion happened as the police officer was driving down a busy street in the centre of Makhachkala, the capital of the region, which borders Chechnya. Another police officer was seriously wounded and other cars were damaged, Tass said. Three people in a minibus were also wounded in the explosion, which shattered windows up to 100 metres (300 feet) away. --SP 2325 Local Time 2025 GMT
