German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder arrived in Ankara Tuesday on a two-day visit where he is expected to praise Turkey for reforms on a wide range of issues, but also to push for further implementation. Schroeder was scheduled to dine with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan later Tuesday before starting official talks with President Ahmet Necdet Sezer and with Erdogan on Wednesday, DPA said. He will then fly on to Istanbul where he will meet Turkish business leaders. Schroeder, a public supporter of Turkey's E.U. membership hopes, is expected to urge the government to do more on the reform front and to ensure that the laws now in place are properly implemented.
