wing Freedom Party (FP) held their May Day rally on a ship on the Danube, which took them to Orth near Vienna. On this occasion, new FP leader Heinz-Christian Strache voiced hefty criticism of the European Union and even suggested thinking about opting out of the bloc because of its "centralism" and "standing out". The opposition Greens observed their "Day of the Unemployed" on Saturday. Their social affairs spokesman Karl Oellinger demanded a basic wage of about 740 euros per month for jobless people and receivers of benefits.
