Kuwaiti Premier Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah has reiterated the existence of effective coordination among all member states of the Arab Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to eradicate terrorism. In a statement published today in the Beirut-based "Al-Bairaq" newspaper, Sheikh Al-Sabah said "with the grace of Almighty Allah, terrorism has become now under the captivity of the state and the citizens and not the vice versa'. Sheikh Al-Sabah noted that the Islamic movement in Kuwait is an indivisible part of the Kuwait society and it is represented at the Kuwait Parliament. 'We admit that the demands of the Islamic movement in Kuwait are characterized with rationality and wisdom', he said noting that the Islamic movement understands the situation in Kuwait, and so it has never asked for the withdrawal of the allied troops which are stationed in Kuwait. Sheikh Al-Sabah pointed out that the foreign military presence in Kuwait is not intensive and does not cause any form of embarrassment to the Kuwaiti Government or people because this existence is not against our wish. He noted that the Kuwaitis, who had earlier suffered from a barbaric invasion, are keen on avoiding the recurrence of a such invasion. Describing the Kuwaiti-Iraqi relations as good ties, he said the borders problem has been overcome, and it will never serve the interests of Iraqis to open the borders issues with Kuwait or any other country. Sheikh Al-Sabah described the GCC, which includes Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, the UAE, Qatar and Bahrain, as the most successful experiment not only in the region, but it may be the most successful at the world level. He drew attention to the dangers being faced by the region, and said the current problems should be wisely and reasonably resolved and tackled.
