Pakistan has seized more than 15 tons of heroin and morphine base in the past four months, a top anti-narcotics official said Thursday. Maj. Gen. Nadeem Ahmed, chief of Pakistan's Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF), said authorities had confiscated more than 300 kilograms (660 pounds) of heroin and opium in two major busts in southwestern Baluchistan province this week alone. "It shows the trend is going up," Ahmed told The Associated Press. During the whole of 2004, Pakistan seized a total of 24.7 tons of heroin and morphine. "There have been some successes (in Afghanistan) in crop eradication, but there's still enough in storehouses to maintain a continuous supply. Things are still moving," he said.
