Ousted Ecuadorean President Lucio Gutierrez left the Brazilian ambassador's residence early Sunday, four days after he sought refuge there, and was headed to the airport to be flown to asylum in Brazil, police said. Gutierrez left the compound shortly after 4 a.m. (0900 GMT) through a back entrance in a police four-wheel-drive, police who were guarding the gate said. A handful of protesters and journalists were waiting in front of another entrance at the time. A Brazilian air force plane was to fly Gutierrez to Brazil on Sunday, four days after Congress voted to remove him from office following a week of street protests, the Brazilian Foreign Ministry said.
