Europe's biggest trial involving al-Qaeda began Friday in Spain, with three of the 24 accused charged with direct involvement in preparing the attacks of September 11, 2001 in the United States. More than 100 police with helicopters were protecting the high- security building for mega-trials in a Madrid park. Syrian-born Imad Eddin Barakat Yarkas and Ghasoub al-Abrash Ghalyoun and Moroccan-born Driss Chebli face 62,000 years each for about 2,500 deaths in the September 11 attacks.
