Europe's biggest trial involving al-Qaeda began Friday in Spain, with three of the 24 accused charged with direct involvement in preparing the attacks of September 11, 2001 in the United States. Syrian-born Imad Eddin Barakat Yarkas and Ghasoub al-Abrash Ghalyoun and Moroccan-born Driss Chebli face 62,000 years each for about 2,500 deaths in the September 11 attacks.
