A federal judge will on Friday hear a guilty plea from the only man in custody for the September 11 terrorist attacks, but has not indicated whether she will accept the plea, news reports said Wednesday. U.S. District Judge Leonie Brinkema scheduled the hearing in the Virginia courtroom just outside Washington, D.C., after she met privately with Zacarias Moussaoui, 36, a French citizen of Moroccan origin, Cable News Network reported. Moussaoui had already once pleaded guilty to the charges in 2002, only to withdraw the plea a week later, leading to questions about his mental competency to stand trial. In his most recent letter, he said he was willing to plea to charges of conspiracy to commit terrorism. He could face the death penalty on some of the charges, and he recognized that possibility in his letter. Prosecutors have been seeking the death penalty for his involvement in the attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people in New York's World Trade building, at the Pentagon in the nation's capital and in Pennsylvania. --More 2247 Local Time 1947 GMT
