A brother of former Kosovo prime minister Ramush Haradinaj, who is on trial before The Hague-based war crimes tribunal, was killed in southwestern Kosovo Friday, U.N. police said. Enver Haradinaj, 22, a former member of the Kosovo Liberation Army (UCK), was shot by unidentified persons in the village of Ljubenic near the regional hub Pec, said local police spokesperson Refki Morina. He died in hospital shortly afterwards. Kosovo's United Nations administration, as well as top ranking Pristina politicians, immediately condemned the incident, in an apparent attempt to calm down the tensions created after the killing. "I want to assure the Haradinaj family, and the people of Kosovo, that the UNMIK Police are devoting all investigative resources to identifying the perpetrators of this crime," deputy chief of UNMIK, Larry Rossin, said. Fearing possible revenge, Rossin urged both the Haradinaj family and people of Kosovo to "demonstrate the composure, maturity and respect for the rule of law which have so characterized Kosovo during the difficult challenges of the past month". --More 0047 Local Time 2147 GMT
