Heavy rains triggered landslides in Tajikistan over the weekend, killing four people, including a teenager and two young children, the Emergencies Ministry said Monday. The landslides hit an area around Nurek, 45 kilometers (28 miles) east of the capital, Dushanbe, according to the ministry. A 50-year-old mother and her 3- and 4-year-old children died when a landslide buried their home in the Nomzirang village on Saturday. Another landslide on Sunday killed a 16-year-old boy in the Uzbek-Langar village, the ministry said. Landslides are common in rainy spring and autumn periods in the mountainous Central Asian nation.
