Tropical storms killed at least four villagers, injured at least 18 others and leveled about 500 homes, mosques and schools in northern Bangladesh, officials and a news report said Sunday. Lightning killed at least four people when a storm struck several villages in northern Rangpur district early Sunday knocking out power and dozens of bamboo-and-mud homes, the area's relief official, Nur Mohammed, told The Associated Press. The storm also destroyed rice crops and uprooted trees in the district, 248 kilometers (155 miles) north of the capital, Dhaka, he said. Another storm hit late Saturday when most of the villagers were asleep at Khuniagachhi, Lalmonirhat district, 256 kilometers (160 miles) north of the capital, Dhaka, the area's chief administrator Babul Chandra Roy said. The storm injured at least six people in the district and left at least 800 villagers homeless, he said.
