Suspected Tamil Tiger rebels
shot dead a government official Monday amid escalating
violence in Sri Lanka's volatile east, the Associated Press quoted the military as saying.
T. Kailanathan, 55, a director at the Ministry of
Vocational Training, was having lunch when suspected
guerrillas opened fire, said military spokesman Brig. Daya
Ratnayake.
