A U.S. Marine was killed in central Iraq, the military said Sunday. The Marine, assigned to the 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, was killed Saturday by an explosion while conducting combat operations in the city of Hadithah, the military said in a statement from Camp Fallujah. The Marine's name was withheld pending notification of next of kin. As of Saturday, April 2, 2005, at least 1,533 members of the U.S. military have died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count.
