Turkish security forces fought Kurdish rebels in southeast Turkey in a clash that killed one and injured four others, officials said Saturday. The rebels opened fire on the security forces, killing a government-paid village guard and injuring three soldiers and another guard, a local official said. The rebels belong to the Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK, which now goes by the name of KONGRA-GEL. The clash occurred in the village of Guzeldere, about 900 kilometers (560 miles) from Ankara.
