European Union finance ministers meeting in Brussels next week will discuss the U.S. Administration's nomination of Paul Wolfowitz as the next president of the World Bank, the E.U.'s Luxembourg presidency said Friday. The discussions are set for March 22, on the sidelines of a summit of E.U. leaders which will focus on stability pact reform and the bloc's growth and jobs generation agenda. The nomination of the current U.S. deputy secretary of defence and a key architect of the Iraq war to the key global development post is still provoking waves in Brussels, with development specialists voicing alarm at Washington's choice. Glenys Kinnock, a British Labour member of the European Parliament, said she was amazed at the U.S. move. "The idea that someone with no experience nor understanding of development can be parachuted into this job beggars belief," Kinnock said. "He is a renowned neo-conservative hawk who has, for instance, shown that he believes that you can build democracy by force if necessary," she added. --More 2352 Local Time 2052 GMT
