The eastern Turkish province of Bingol was shaken by a moderate earthquake early Monday that injured 18 people and damaged buildings in approximately two dozen villages. The Kandilli Seismology Institute in Istanbul said the quake, registered 5.9 on the Richter scale when it hit the Karliova district of Bingol at 3:55 a.m. (0055 GMT). The Anadolu news agency reported a number of buildings were damaged in the quake but there were no reports of casualties. On Saturday morning the same region was hit by an earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale that injured 17 people. The Turkish Red Crescent had already sent a number of tents and blankets to the region.
