In a show of solidarity against terrorism, Morocco's King Mohammed VI traveled to neighboring Spain for Friday's official ceremonies to mark the first anniversary of the Madrid train bombings. It was the monarch's first visit to Spain since Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero took office and was intended to reinforce a message that the two neighbors must bury past differences to tackle terrorist threats. "The presence of his majesty is the illustration of a common combat against terrorism," Morocco's Foreign Affairs Minister Tayeb Fassi-Fihri said. Mohammed VI's visit comes after a January trip to Morocco by Spain's royal couple, King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia. It was the first visit to Morocco by the Spanish monarchy since 1979.
