Sheikh, March 10, SPA -- Egypt's president and Israel's defense chief met for the first time Thursday, with talks expected to focus on delays in implementing Palestinian-Israeli agreements reached at a recent summit. The talks, taking place in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, follow a Feb. 8 summit also held here when the Israeli and Palestinian leaders agreed to cease four years of bloodshed. Egyptian leader Hosni Mubarak met Israeli Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz following a plea by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, who wants Egypt to coax Israel into complying with summit agreements, including the Israeli handover of West Bank towns and release of Palestinian prisoners.
