Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jassem Mohamed Albudaiwi received the Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General to Yemen Hans Grundberg on Thursday at the headquarters of the General Secretariat in Riyadh. During the meeting, the Secretary-General affirmed the GCC's determination to support all international efforts in a way that contributes to achieving security, stability, development and peace in Yemen. The two sides discussed the GCC's firm position on supporting legitimacy in Yemen and ending the Yemeni crisis by reaching a political solution as per the three references, including the Gulf Initiative and its Executive Mechanism, the outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference (NDC), and the Security Council resolution 2216, which were confirmed in the statement of the Supreme Council of the GCC during its 43rd session held in December 2022. In the statement, the Leaders of the GCC member states underlined their backing to the Yemeni legitimacy represented by the Presidential Leadership Council, chaired by Dr Rashad Al Alimi and the entities supporting the Council enable it to exercise its tasks towards achieving security and stability in Yemen and protecting its unity, sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity. The two parties also exchanged views on the GCC's supportive efforts to renew the truce sponsored by the United Nations and to provide all aspects of support in the humanitarian, relief, economic and development fields in Yemen.
