Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jassim Muhammad Al-Budaiwi met today in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Prime Minister of Iraq's Kurdistan Regional Government Masrour Barzani on the sidelines of the 2023 World Government Summit (WGS). During the meeting, Al-Budaiwi expressed support for Iraq's security and stability. The two officials discussed the GCC's cooperation with the Republic of Iraq, issues of common concern, and ways to develop relations to serve the interests of both sides. They also tackled the current international situation, and the key challenges and crises in the regional and international arenas. In December 2022, the GCC Supreme Council condemned the attacks that targeted the Kurdistan region, supporting the Iraqi government's statements that condemned Iran's artillery shelling and drone attacks on a number of regions of Iraq's Kurdistan region, which made many victims among peaceful citizens, saying that it constitutes a violation of Iraq's sovereignty and security.
