Russia's atomic energy chief, Alexander Rumyantsev, arrived Friday in Teheran for a two-day visit expected to produce a signed agreement to deliver Russian nuclear fuel to Iran. Rumyantsev and his Iranian counterpart, Gholam-Reza Aqazadeh, will visit the joint Iran-Russia nuclear power plant in the southern Persian Gulf port of Bushehr whose first phase is to become operational at the end of this year or beginning of 2006. Rumyantsev told reporters at the airport that all activities of the Bushehr plant were in full coordination with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and had nothing to do with the ongoing talks on Iran's nuclear activities with Europe. The main document to be signed between the two sides is provision of nuclear fuel to Iran and return of the waste after cooling so that no plutonium could be extracted from the wasted fuel. The details of the document will be disclosed at a joint press conference on Saturday in Teheran. The signing of the documents is the main condition by Russia to continue work on the Bushehr power plant. Also the United States which accuses Iran of following a nuclear weapons programme had demanded the signing of the protocol. --More 2354 Local Time 2054 GMT
