A delegation from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), headed by Dr. Ibrahim Al-Mohsen paid yesterday a visit to the Fisheries Unit in the governorate of Farasan Islands in the Red Sea. The FAO delegation participated in a workshop on "Explaining Aquaculture to Fishermen", and witnessed the signing of an agreement between small aquaculture producers and members of the Fishermen's Cooperative Association in the governorate to enhance the exploration of the opportunities and potentials of seaweed farming in the Farasan Islands, in addition to briefing on the efforts of the Fisheries Unit in Farasan in protecting and preserving biodiversity to achieve sustainable development. It is worth mentioning that Farasan Islands are located some 50 km offshore from Jizan, the far southwestern part of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
