Snowstorms hit central and northern Spain on Wednesday, isolating dozens of villages and prompting the cancellation of at least 27 flights at Madrid airport, news reports said. A blanket of snow covered the streets of Madrid and reached heights of 25 centimeters in some cities. Temperatures dipped to 10 degrees Celsius below zero in La Rioja in the north. Dozens of road links were severed especially in mountainous areas. Some train services were suspended, and many flights suffered delays.
