Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council, Dr. Mishaal bin Fahm Al-Sulami, met in Riyadh today with the Chairman of the European Parliament Foreign Affairs Committee, David McAllister, and the accompanying delegation.
Al-Sulami stressed the importance of strengthening bilateral ties to serve common interests, noting the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in promoting mutual understanding and communication, and that parliamentarians have a major role in supporting and developing these relations.
He explained that Saudi Arabia is making great and effective efforts to achieve security, stability, and development in the region and the world, and has presented many humanitarian and development initiatives and projects to several countries, including its support to the legitimate government in Yemen to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people through the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen and the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) and the (Masam) mine clearance project, which has successfully dismantled more than 350,000 mines in Yemen.
The Deputy Speaker highlighted the achievements of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, the comprehensive qualitative shift and the great development that the Kingdom is witnessing at all economic, developmental, investment, and tourism levels, and achieving a large number of the vision's goals before reaching the year 2030, noting the Kingdom's pivotal role in confronting the climate change challenge and reducing carbon emissions, where the Kingdom has presented qualitative initiatives in this regard, such as the Saudi Green Initiative and the Middle East Green Initiative - which were announced by HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, which aim to reduce carbon emissions in the Middle East by 60%, in addition to the Kingdom's commitment to achieving zero carbon neutrality by the year 2060.
The Chairman of the European Parliament Foreign Affairs Committee expressed his appreciation for the Kingdom's important and influential role at the global level in many issues, stressing the importance of joint bilateral communication and strengthening relations between the European Parliament and the Shura Council, in a way that contributes to supporting global security and stability.
