The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia won first place in the competition of the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) Championship 2022, which was held in Dortmund, Germany, from November 17 to 19. It is a global competition aimed at showing the creativity of young people in the age group of 8 to 19 years in the fields of robotics, artificial intelligence, and STEM programming. The Kingdom's team participating in the tournament was managed by the Saudi Wireless, Remote-Control & Robots Sports Federation in partnership with the Saudi Federation For Cybersecurity, Programming and Drones (SAFCSP); the Ministry of Education; King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology; Prince Sattam University; King Salman Oasis, and Thakaa Co., sponsored by SABIC Liquidation Company, and Saudi Telecom Company Solutions for the participation of the Kingdom's teams in the finals. The Kingdom participated in the global finals of WRO with eight teams - the largest participation in the history of the Kingdom's participation in the Olympiad finals - in which 365 teams from 73 countries around the world competed, as the Kingdom won first place in the category of the future of innovation for the primary stage at international level as a new achievement for the Kingdom in this tournament, in addition to the 7th place in the robot sport category, and the 11th place in the future creators category for the intermediate stage, advancing 7 places from its classification in its previous participation. The Kingdom also ranked 14th in the category of future innovators for the secondary stage, 20 places ahead of its previous classification in the Olympiad, 39th in the category of robot tasks for the primary stage, 33 places ahead of its previous classification, and 42nd in the category of robot tasks for the intermediate stage, advancing 24 places from its previous classification, and the 66th place in the category of robot tasks for the secondary stage, in addition to the team participating in the category of future engineers winning the 15th place.
