The kingdom achieves two bronze medals in the International Math Olympiad 2011 in Netherlands
Saudi ranks 70 among 101 participating countries

The kingdom achieved two bronze medals in the International Math Olympiad 2011 by the two skilled students Wael Al Saeed and Al Yazeed Besyoni in the events of the Olympiad that was held in Netherlands from 16 July to 24 July, where one mark only held down the student Wael Al Saeed from achieving the silver medal, nothing that his rank was the 145th among 564 students of the best math students in the world. The ranking of the student Al Yazeed Al Baysoni was 253, while the Kingdom's rank was the 70th among 101 countries. This participation comes through the mutual cooperation between the Ministry of Education and King Abdulaziz's Association for Talent and Creativity "Mawheba".
Dr. Al Sebti: we will be among the best 20% in the world soon
The vice president of education and the General secretary of King Abdulaziz's Association for Talent and Creativity "Mawheba" Dr. Khalid Al Sebti thanked the wise leadership and for his Excellency the minister of education, vice president of Mawheba Prince Faisal Bin Abdulla Bin Mohammad Al Saud for his big support for talents and creativity in general, and for what was achieved that can be added to the list of the Kingdom's achievements in international events.
He also said that these competitions are a tool to discover the future scientists and the smart minds in math majors, pointing that the continuity of the participations and the Saudi achievements in such competitions will contribute is developing the education level of math in all levels and will push it to the intellect that is based on the mathematical reasoning. He also pointed that the target is for the Kingdom to be among the best 20% of the world countries in the scientific bases in the coming couple of years. He also assured that the participation of the Saudi team led to advancement of the Kingdom's ranking from the last 3% of the countries to the best 70% through this year and the previous year. Moreover, in this year the Kingdom achieved the second place on the level of the Arab countries where Morocco achieved the 62nd, noting that it is participating since 1983 (29 participations), and the kingdom headed some countries such as Tunisia, Cyprus, Luxemburg, Venezuela, Iceland, Uruguay and Paraguay, and all of these countries participated for more than 15 times in the competition.
The general supervisor of the International Olympiad project Dr. Abdelaziz Al Harthi clarified that the Kingdom has a notable role in this competitions and similar ones because of the others' realization that the Kingdom is keen on presence and achieving the best results. He also assured that the participation of the kingdom this year included a serious participation in the Physics Olympiad in Malaysia and the Chemistry Olympiad in Turkey, and they resulted in the advancement of the Kingdom's ranking as well as the achievement of an acknowledgement certificate by the physics student. Furthermore, the officials of the Olympiads praised the Saudi delegations for their application and seriousness, where the Saudi female student participated (with her family) to resemble the kingdom this year in the Chemistry Olympiad, and she was an example of the Muslim, decent and excellent student both morally and knowledge wise, which structures that the Saudi women is able to contribute in the development to reach to an educated society with Sharia regulations. What is perhaps notable is that those competitions resulted in a scientific movement in all the other regions and provinces of the Kingdom.
The general supervisor pointed that the countries that achieved high results and gold medals are the ones that prepared their students for several years, which may start from the elementary level in such countries, adding that the Olympiad competition is aiming to implant education within the students, which is the way to make positive results in the future. He also pointed that the target of such participation is to contribute in raising the education level in these subjects.
Noted that the first competition in the International Math Olympiad was in Romania in 1959 with the participation of only seven countries and it continued yearly. The competition is hosted annually by one of the participating countries, and in this year the Olympiad was held in Netherlands where 101 countries participated.
Physics:
The Kingdom was at the bottom of the participating countries list in the previous participations with marks that don't exceed 5 from 250, which is not more than 2%, while in this year the Kingdom achieved 63,8, which is equal to 25%, meaning that there is an advancement of more than ten times in the performance of the participating students.
Chemistry:
The marks of the students in the previous competitions ranged between 6-11 marks for the years 2006-2007, while it ranged this year between 27-49 marks.
