The Saudi Arabia national under-23 football team won the West Asian Federation (WAFF) Cup U-23 Championship for 2022, after defeating the Qatar national team 3/1, in the match that was held between them Tuesday at King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah in the final of the current edition of the tournament. The Saudi U23 national team opened the scoring in the 9th minute, through Ahmed Al-Ghamdi, then Saad Al-Nasser doubled the score at the 18th minute. The Qatari team succeeded in reducing the difference at the start of the second half, when it received a penalty kick in the 49th minute, which Diab Haroun successfully translated into a goal. At the 67th minute, the Saudi player Musab Al-Juwair confirmed the superiority of the Saudi team, after adding the 3rd goal from a direct free kick. Saudi Arabia national under-23 football team had qualified for the final after defeating his Omani counterpart 2-1 in the semi-finals, while the Qatari team overcame the Syrian team, 7-6, on penalty kicks, after the end of the original time of the match with a 1-1 draw.
