First Phase of Project to Provide Drinking Water with Solar Energy in Three Yemeni Governorates Inaugurated through Trilateral Cooperation of SDRPY, AGFUND, Selah
The first phase of a project to provide drinking water with solar energy was inaugurated in 12 districts of Hadramout, Yemen, which is implemented through a trilateral contribution of Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY), Arab Gulf Program for Development (AGFUND) and Selah Foundation for Development. The project covers three Yemeni governorates of Hadramout, Abyan and Lahij as part of the renewable energy project to improve the quality of life in Yemen in five governorates: Hadramout, Abyan, Lahij, Taiz and Al-Hudaidah, and is expected to benefit more than 62,000 Yemenis. The scheme of providing drinking water with solar energy will contribute to realizing a qualitative leap in increasing the operational capacity of drinking water systems, in a bid to developing the quality of life in these governorates, in addition to meeting the daily needs of beneficiaries from freshwater, realizing food security and enhancing countryside resilience. The project also includes rehabilitating wells through implementing 12 drinking water systems with renewable energy, providing 35 agricultural irrigation systems with renewable energy, and providing energy for 20 educational and health facilities and providing 133 houses with renewable energy systems.
