Indonesian troops gunned down seven suspected rebels in continuing violence in tsunami-ravaged Aceh province, an army spokesman said Monday. The seven were killed Sunday in Bireun District, a rebel stronghold about 160 kilometers (200 miles) east of the capital Banda Aceh, said Ari Mulya Asnawi, a spokesman for military operations in the area. A suspected rebel was also captured and three rifles confiscated, said Asnawi, alleging that the firefight broke out after an army patrol intercepted the guerrillas as they headed to a nearby refugee camp.
