The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) participated in the Tashkent International Conference on Afghanistan, which was held today under the title "Security and Economic Development", in the Republic of Uzbekistan. The Secretary-General of the OIC Hissein Brahim Taha praised the timely initiative of the Uzbek authorities to hold this major event at this defining moment in the future of Afghanistan. During a speech, delivered on his behalf by the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the OIC to Afghanistan, Ambassador Tariq Ali Bakhit, he stressed the urgent need to adopt a coordinated and integrated strategic approach to deal with the huge challenges facing Afghanistan, stressing that the way to achieve this is continuous and constructive communication with the authorities in the country. The Secretary-General of the OIC called on multilateral humanitarian and development organizations to provide humanitarian assistance that would save the lives of the Afghan people in these critical circumstances, encouraging the member states of the OIC, the countries of the world and international and regional organizations to contribute to the organization's trust fund for Afghanistan.
