Kenya hit back at Britain on Thursday over a strong attack by its former colonial master on corruption, saying the envoy who made it was an "enemy" seeking to dictate the country's fight against the abuse. Vice President Moody Awori said in a statement the east African country was determined to fight graft in high places but would not do so in response to pressure from outsiders. "Kenyans will not allow themselves to be dictated to by foreigners," the statement said. "The ongoing war on corruption is not in any way pegged on pressure by outsiders, but is a homegrown initiative by Kenyans themselves for their own benefit." Awori was responding to a speech by British ambassador Edward Clay on Wednesday that said anti-graft efforts by President Mwai Kibaki had failed to stop "massive looting" of public funds. Clay said foreign associates of the previous government of former President Daniel arap Moi were working with Kibaki's officials to steal funds through crooked procurement ventures. --More 2005 Local Time 1705 GMT
