Senior officials from Islamabad and Washington were holding talks Thursday on weapon sales to modernize Pakistan's military, including a request for U.S.-made F-16 fighter jets, officials said. The U.S. delegation was led by Undersecretary of Defense Douglas Feith in Rawalpindi, a city near the capital Islamabad, a Pakistani Defense Ministry official said on condition of anonymity. Defense Secretary Hamid Nawaz Khan led the Pakistan side at the meeting of the Pakistan-U.S. Defense Consultative Group _ a forum set up in 1984 to promote military cooperation between the two countries. Pakistan would raise its request for the fighter-aircraft at Thursday's meeting, Foreign Ministry spokesman Masood Khan said Monday.
