Pakistan's coast guard arrested 43 Indian fishermen and seized their seven boats for allegedly fishing in Pakistani waters in the Arabian Sea, an official said Saturday. A Maritime Security Agency patrol captured the fishermen late Friday about 100 kilometers (60 miles) southeast of Karachi, port agency spokesman Cmdr. Khawar Hassan said. The men were handed over to the police, he said. The coast guards of rival neighbors India and Pakistan often arrest each other's fishermen, accusing them of illegal entry and fishing, and sometimes spying. Some are held without trial and wait years to be released. The latest arrests came weeks after Pakistan freed 266 Indian fishermen after holding them for years. But 650 other Indian fishermen are still being held in Pakistan. India is also reportedly holding more than 100 Pakistani fishermen.
