Five people were confirmed dead on Wednesday after a search team came across the wreckage of the light aircraft in which they were travelling when it was reported missing in South Africa on Tuesday, the Sapa news agency reported. The U.S. registered aircraft took off from the Wonderboom airport in Pretoria on Tuesday afternoon for an hour-long flight to Harrismith in the Free State Province. One of the passengers called a relative from a mobile phone shortly before the aircraft was due to land, but the group - initially believed to consist of four South Africans - and the aircraft was not seen again. An overnight search ended at around noon Wednesday with the discovery of the crash site outside the town of Cornelia in the Free State. Civil aviation authorities were probing the crash.
